Students were given a survey to evaluate their image of infants both at the onset of their pediatric nursing practicum and then again near graduation, after they had completed all their specialized training sessions. Results were compared and factors contributing to a change of image were examined. An affirmative practicum experience was found to be a contributing factor in the formation of a positive image towards children. Additionally, the nursing school practicum component of the pediatric nursing training program, where students dealt most directly with small children, was shown to be the most significant and effective training experience in shaping students' image of children.
