The types of “Forest Kindergarten” in Japan can be categorized into several categories; nursery school activities in forests that are managed independently by a volunteer group, including the \n guardians of the children, throughout the year, those introduced into licensed kindergartens and nursery schools, as a part of their outside activities and the others conducted as events, by nature schools and private organizations. In forests, a variety of creatures live and grow dynamically through life-and-death relationships with each other. We assumed that the \n activities of the “Forest Kindergarten” might provide the basis of “Active Learning” in which children can be moved by the magnitude, mysteries and beauty of nature and then share them with their friends in forests. In addition, those activities could also provide the basis for “Life Environment Studies” in elementary school, which emphasizes the importance of noticing nature around us. We focused on these points for our investigation and discussions. Consequently, it was shown that children were able to find problems by themselves and cooperated with each other to resolve these problems in their activities, which was considered to be the basis for “Active Learning”.
