As for seafood intake, about the half of the primary school children in Nayoro-shi ate fish once or twice a week as a fillet. When seafood was served with school lunches, about 70% of the children completed their meal without any leftovers. 0nly around one-third of the children talked about having seafood at home with their families,but actually more than half of them enjoyed having seafood at home. Most of the children seldom cooked seafood with their families,went seafood shopping,or tried to learn about seafood in general. Yet 70% of the children indicated that they liked eating seafood and wanted to eat more,felt more comfortable eating more fish, and believed in the nutritional importance of eating more seafood. As for the eating patterns and trends of the children with their families, most of them ate breakfast and dinner with their families, but only 20% had adult family members present at breakfast. About one-third of the children had never thought of linking food and environmental protection issues. About 70% of the children enjoy eating meals, but the rest of them did not. About 60% of the children understood the connection between food and health issues, but the other 40% were not even aware of such issues. ln conclusion,in order to increase the seafood intake among children, we need to add more seafood into the meals at home as well as in school lunches.
