Results from skill test and questionnaire given to 2nd year nursing students at Nayoro City College in 2001 and 2003 were compared. Three issues become evident. First, students showed low levels of attainment in verbalizing the injection process. Second,following independent practice, the number of students who judged the precise technical steps to be difficult decreased.Third,although attainment levels were not low,an increased number of students judged the filling of the syringe to be defficult due to extreme nervousness. As a result of this study,both the need for teachers to motivate students to confirm the steps involved in intramuscular injection and the importance of recognizing student effort were confirmed.
