There was also a period when everyone was worried about being separated into`winners'and`losers'. The government has always stressed that \"those who work hard deserve to be rewarded\" ,although it has recently begun to make reference to the notion of`re-challenge',or`starting over'. \n On the other hand,the social gap (\"kakusa\" in Japanese) has come to be felt strongly among the people and there is much debate on its causes and cures. However,the meaning of the word \"kakusa\" is somewhat ambiguous in the contemporary Japanese context.
