| 内容記述 | 本稿は、オーストラリアにおける社会主義者ジャック・ロンドンの活動について論じる。アメリカ合衆国において社会主義者としてもその名を知られていた人気作家ジャック・ロンドンは1907年、自分が建造した船「スナーク」号で世界1周の旅に出た。南洋諸島の島々を旅している途中に南国特有の病気にかかり、そのため一時旅行を中止し、病気の治療のためオーストラリアのシドニーに立ち寄ることになった。1908年末から1909年4月までの滞在期間中、ロンドンは一度も社会主義の講演を行わなかった。そのため、社会主義者ロンドンに焦点を当てた伝記作家たちは、オーストラリア滞在記のロンドンの活動についてあまり注目していない。ところが、当時の記事を集めたスクラップブックを見ると、ロンドンがオーストラリアの新聞を通じて社会問題や彼の社会主義思想を発信していたことがわかる。本稿は、スクラップブックに収録されている当時の新聞記事を参考にしながら、オーストラリアにおける社会主義者ロンドンの活動をまとめ、論じる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The focus of this paper is on Jack London's activities as a socialist in Australia. In 1907,London,a popular writer and socialist in the U.S.,left California on a trip around the world in his ship named "Snark."He went to Hawaii, then to the South Sea inlands,where he fell sick of a tropical disease.He then decided to go to Sydney to find a cure fot it. From eh end of 1908 to Spril 1909, he stayed in Australia without giving any public lectures on socialism. Thus,the biographers of London who have focused on his socialist activities have paid little attention to this period.However,his scrapbooks from this show that London mede statements on social issues and his vision of socialism to Australian newspapers. This paper examines some of there newspaper articles that clipped in his scrap-books and discusses them in light of his socialism. | |||||
